About Nong Khai

Nong Khai is a border province, located only 20 kilometers from Vientiane, which is the capital of Laos. As a gesture of friendship between the two countries, the province of Nong Khai features a bridge that binds Thailand to Laos. Being on the border with Laos, Nong Khai is popular with tourists who can make visa run to Laos and renew their visa to Thailand.

Tourists are attracted towards the Nong Khai as an intermediary point to continue traveling to Laos, as well as for its scenic countryside, natural beauty, a number of temples, and its rural lifestyle. Another unique thing to watch for is the annual naga fireballs event, in which mysterious glowing light balls rise up from the Mekong River. According to popular belief, these balls are sent by the naga king to honor Lord Buddha.
